Ryosuke Tanzawa "First Thought Best Thought"

Ryosuke Tanzawa is a Japanese born photographer and director who has lived in New York City for over a decade. After working as a video editor for Mass Appeal he shifted to focus on his own freelance work, and began shooting videos for different artists in New York's burgeoning underground hip hop scene. He has shot videos for rappers such as Wiki, MIKE, Navy Blue, and Earl Sweatshirt, and has been integral in establishing the visual identity for this new wave of hip hop through his unique perspective.

First Thought Best Thought, Tanzawa's first photo book release, is created from still images he has captured over the past few years. A mix of street photos as well as photos of the rap community that he works within, it carries the same distinctive eye, humor, and style found in Tanzawa's videos. First Thought Best Thought is published in partnership with Full Court Press.
