Description

藝術家 Jane Dickson 被視作曾參與紐約藝術場景最迷人也傳奇的核心一員。作為七零末至八零年代初即在此深根的她,正與這一股自 downtown 而生,包含藝術、龐克、嘻哈文化紛紛不約而同由下至上所展開萌芽的多元風貌一同經歷。身為畫家,她曾與 Basquiat 等人一同參與傳奇的激進藝術團體 Colab、藝術社區 Fashion Moda 所自主號召的各樣活動,及傳奇 Real Estate 以及 Time Square 等藝術聯展。

儘管一切看來風華滿面,事實上,七八零年代的紐約是一座徹底的死城,眾人失業,充滿犯罪、臭名昭彰。而 Jane 當時即生活在此一戶公寓中,扶養兩個孩子,試圖以創作與各樣形式的藝術與能量與組織回應這一切。透過大量的紀錄照片與炭筆作繪、文字作輔,此《Jane Dickson in Time Square》一書向我們揭示了紐約當時最無法無天、躁狂、骯髒的真實一貌,卻叫人同感驚嘆的壯麗能量。
